What is covered in the course?

  • Introduction to the fundamentals of modern defensive shooting, AR15 familiarization, and safe firearms handling techniques. Note: Basic firearms safety practices are expected at all times.
  • Situational awareness, threat recognition, and deadly force issues and potential outcomes.
  • On the non-projectile range, you will work on ready-carry positions, malfunction clearing, grip, trigger management, and sight alignment. View Our FAQ’s.
  • The course will wrap up with a self-assessment of your mindset and your personal ability/confidence.

What you will be able to do after completing the Level 1 Rifle class?

  1. Understand how to use an AR-15 for defensive purposes.
  2. Malfunction clearing, emergency reloads, tactical reloads and speed reloads.
  3. Demonstrate muzzle discipline in crowded situations.
  4. Issue simple and effective verbal commands to aggressors.
  5. Presentation from low/high ready and engage stationary and moving aggressors.
  6. Move in all directions while engaging stationary and moving aggressors.
  7. Find cover and concealment and shoot from behind barriers.
  8. Shoot from non-traditional shooting positions (kneeling, on back, on side, etc.).

What is the prerequisite for this course?

There is no prerequisite for this course other than a basic level of comfort around firearms. Keep in mind that our rifles are the same size and weight as a full-sized M4/M16/AR15. Those who lack the strength to handle 10lbs safely should not take this class until they are older/stronger.

Who should take this course?

Anyone who wants to learn or improve their defensive rifle skills.  The Level 1 rifle course is not designed for experienced shooters. Experienced shooters can probably skip to Level 2.

What is the length of this Course?

4-hours including classroom and hands-on non-projectile (infrared) range time.

What to bring?

All training equipment, will be provided for this class including the firearms. View the Armory. Please DO NOT bring any firearms or any ammunition to the class. If you have a favorite sling, and/or mag pouch that you want to train with feel free to bring it.
